My passion for these wonderful creatures begun in the mid seventies with the acquisition of two red mask furry puppies on a vacation trip to San Francisco , California. I never thought that this description could affect so much my way of life . From that moment until now afghans have been part of my life and part of my family as well . Although I did knew to much about the breed had the luck to pick two very nice puppies that became my first champions dogs. Keops , the male, was a beautiful dog with a presence of a true afghan . His pedigree went back to Dorian Of Grandeur bred to a Westwind bitch. Kefren, my female, that was his littermate, were bred with a Ninth Turn Argus son that was imported to Peru in the late seventies. From that litter became Mija Of Dega Afghans my first homebred champion that produce Falstaff of Dega Afghans my first home bred BIS dog .
The beginning as always wasn´t that easy. Took me some time and hard work to find my own place to live with my dogs , learning how to groom, etc, until I got the great idea to go in 1980 to the AHCA National Specialty in Palo Alto, Califonia. That was a big step, many questions were finally answered. I met so many nice dogs, breeders and handlers, many of them are no longer with us. One person I met in Palo Alto and consider my mentor was Alice Hively, the owner of Ch. Coastwind Yev´Rah Amid. After the National we went to see Amid with Richard Souza, his beeder-handler, at Santa Barbara Show. Amid was certainly a beautiful dog.
During the 25 years that I had been involved in Afghans in Perú I have bred 15 litters under my Dega prefix/sufix, and 10 litters under the Chaman & Dega prefix/suffix co-owned with Ana Suarez. From those 25 litters we have finished more than 50 Peruvian Champions. Many of them have achieved their titles breeder-owner/handled. I have had the luck to win many Al-breed Bests in Show in Puppy, Junior and Adult Competition.
